About Me
I have a feeling this page is going to change a lot, as it should. My name is Marc and I hate computers. They never quite do what you tell them, break when they want to, and send you popups and updates instead of doing what you tell them. Lucky for you, I'm here to make them behave themselves and do only what you ask of them, making computing a more enjoyable experience.
This website accomplishes two things:
Hosts the Blog, where I write about the politics behind computers (i.e. what's preventing your devices from doing the possible)
Promotes my in-home service business, for those of you who would rather pay me to spend an hour or two on your computer and making it behave itself magically forever.
My experience:
I've been working with all brands, shapes, and sizes of computers since 1994.
I have extensive Windows, Apple Macintosh, and Ubuntu Linux knowledge.
I specialize in in-home service, including the diagnosis and repair of troublesome computers, as well as pointing out some really helpful things you didn't even know were possible!
A general outline of what I do when I look at your PC:
Boot up computer, observe symptoms
Attempt to permanently remove anything that's malicious or troublesome
If at this point I am not 100% happy with how your computer performs, we back up your data and I wipe your computer clean, then restore your programs/files. (Most computer repair shops charge you $79 to install a spyware scanner, then give your computer back to you slower than before!)
I install a pile of Open Source (free and more secure) alternatives to your programs, such as Mozilla Firefox and OpenOffice.
I then offer to install Ubuntu (an Open Source replacement for Windows) alongside your software. It's infinitely more secure, thanks to a community of thousands of volunteers who correct errors and security holes the minute they're discovered. You can still use Windows when a program specifically calls for it, such as 3D games.
Voila! Now you can get another 5 years out of that computer, instead of spending a lot of money on a new one!
Thanks for coming to my website. Enjoy!
